Sri Chinmoy Sri Chinmoy was born in the small town of Shakpura in East Bengal in 1931. Sri Chinmoy was the youngest of seven children. During 1944, after both his parents had approved away, 12 years-old Chinmoy entered the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, a spiritual culture society near Pondicherry in South India . Here he exhausted the next 20 years in spiritual practice – counting long hours of thought, practising athletics, symbols poetry, essays and religious songs. In his early youth, Chinmoy had lots of intense inner experience, and in succeeding years achieved very higher states of thought. In 1964, he encouraged to New York City to split his inner wealth with truthful seekers in the west.
